Ryan doesn't understand himself.
Ryan wishes he could reduce himself to a simple stereotype in order to better understand himself.
Ryan realizes that this is either impossible or that he does not really want to submit to a stereotype because that would hurt his image because he has an overinflated perception of himself. Which in itself is a stereotype anyway.
In other words, Ryan really does understand himself but refuses to admit it.
