Lately

Life's been a mix of things right now. Nothing ever really permanent though. I've been starting to sense how fleeting it is, this world I'm living in. It's never ever really there- always moving forward- as if I've been constantly walking forward, never being allowed to look backwards except in occasional random musings during my alone times that never really last long either. I can feel it when I talk to people everyday, somehow: this sense of uncertainty, never knowing how things will be between us a year from now. We may be treating each other like casual acquaintances by then more than anything. And all the while, I still feel as if I'm more carefree than other people around here... like I have no real problems other than the usual "work, work, work" mentality that pervades my life.

Of course, I could continue rambling on into abstract nothingness, but instead I guess I'll liven this entry up slightly with some concrete details to provide some context for my situation. Or lack of thereof.

Today I played Day of the Tentacle for some hours on my laptop whilst trying to do psych reading. Yesterday it was Gabriel Knight. The day before was Penguins! and The Sims 2. The day before that was a bunch of random games on addictinggames.com. The past three nights I've been up until about 4-5 in the morning just doing that while either having people over in the room or while visiting other people around the same time. It's always fun having people to share your insomnia with.

My roommate's been trying to compete with me for who can sleep later the entire semester. So far he's only won once, last night, and that was because he decided to type up his essay a good 3 days before it was due (God forbid >_>).

Lately been in a bit of a Disney mood. Our entire floor got assigned characters: I'm Lumiere. Oh and I've gotten listening to random Disney songs right now since spending those past few days singing with Carly and Terry at the piano. Terry was awesome at the singing competition the building had on Friday.

(I'm kind of jealous of Carly's ability to sight read...)

Last week and a month before that I got into a movie mood. Since coming here I've watched: Amelie, Sunset Boulevard, Vertigo, Taxi Driver, The Usual Suspects, Brick, Se7en, Chinatown, Airplane!, The Prestige, Memento, and parts of Sleeping Beauty and The Little Mermaid.

Jason's not bad at cooking.

People say I look really studious when I'm not doing homework.

The view from the seventh floor balcony here is pretty beautiful. Kinda suburban, but you look out into the 2 AM fog and it looks pretty mystical. Occasionally you can see the SF Bay from Karen's room on the 8th floor.

At random times when it's available I play Smash Bros. Melee with other people at one of the rooms on this floor with either a Wii or a Gamecube. I'm not really good persay, but I can kill people with Game and Watch or Ness kinda significantly before dying. I actually won a couple of 4 player matches, but one of those was partly because Martin was using Jigglypuff, who is a bit more susceptible to Game and Watch's attacks than DAMN YOU FOX.

Hate List:

1. Fox (HE TERRORIZES ME IN EVERY SINGLE FUCKING BATTLE I EVER PLAY IN - TWICE SOMETIMES - unless he's been replaced by Jigglypuff.)
2. Marth (he's only second here because I actually liked playing as him before everyone friggin started using him)
3. Jigglypuff's Cheap Attacks (Thank God it's easier to kill her)
4. Falco (Fox clone, though incidentally not as bad)
5. Uhh... everyone else.

IMing doesn't really do it for me. Scratch that, it never really did do anything for me.

Before Disney started (aka last week) I'd been developing a random interest in old people. Fred Astaire, Gene Kelley, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Sondheim (Sweeney Todd, Company, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum), William Holden, and the like, along with the movies/productions they've been involved in. Singing in the Rain decidedly jumped up to near the top of my favorites list after I rewatched some of the old scenes from it on youtube, like Make Em Laugh, Good Morning, and in particular, Gene Kelley's entire dance sequence in the rain. I love that song. The Babbit and the Bromide and Puttin on the Ritz are good too.

Speaking of random songs... I've been feeling a little... romantic?

Green Finch and Linnet Bird
Johanna
Belle
Beauty and the Beast
Strangers Like Me
Getting to Know You
Tour of the Kingdom
The Girl Who Stole The Stars
Out There
A Whole New World
that one adventurous theme song from The Rescuers Down Under
Josh Kim's Beautiful Lights

There was one night earlier this week when I had Josh's song on repeat at about 3 in the morning for a while with the window open. It was a pretty beautiful night... considering all I could see is the Unit 1 courtyard. The acoustic guitar kinda fit though.

To be honest, though, I wasn't really looking at the courtyard when I heard that song. I was looking at Josh, playing his guitar that one night at the RYLA Talent Show at that camp in Idyllwild. That song basically epitomized the entire night for me... and everything I'd been feeling from the beginning of high school till now.

Enter people into the room.
