So I had dinner at an Ethiopian restaurant with Mark's family yesterday, which somehow turned into a really interesting discussion on the history and development of the early church. Complete with diagrams being drawn all over the dinner table. Mark's family is fascinating.
Apparently the historical Santa Claus (St. Nicholas) punched a guy named Arius at the Council of Nicaea for claiming that Jesus =/= God the Father. And then he got stripped of his bishop status for losing his cool, only to be reinstated the following day after God sent all of the bishops at the council a dream showing his approval of St. Nicholas. :P
I have to say that after that discussion, I'm really interested in the Eastern Orthodox church now. Considering how not as often I hear about them compared to the Catholic church. Hm, topic for further research.
